Asakiwaki Woman Statue

NW and SE corners of US Route 30 and Raynor/Black Road Joliet , IL 60435
Located at the central north corner of Joliet's Six Corners intersection, this sculpture depicts a Sauk woman, set on a mosaic-clad pedestal. It was completed in 2002 and cold cast in bronzed resin by artist Kathleen Scarboro. Scarboro is a native of Joliet and received her art training at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Since that time, she has worked in France and Illinois, with her work largely focused on Native American history, particularly the tribes of Illinois. Between 1998 and 2009, the group Friends of Community Public Art, co-founded by Kathleen, created 40 outdoor sculptures. The works were co-created by Scarboro, Kathleen Farrell, Dante DeBartolo, Sharka Glet, Ron Swanson, Andrea Rountree, and Saul Chavira.
