Crossroads of the Nation

Intersection of Lincoln Highway and Dixie Highway Chicago Heights , IL 60411
Here marks the historic crossing of the Lincoln and Dixie highways in Chicago Heights. On Chicago Day, October 9, 1916, a ceremony was held to dedicate the junction. Part of the festivities included speeches on the Good Roads Movement and the optimistic future of the Lincoln Highway by Mayor Hood of Chicago Heights and William G. Edens, a leader of the Movement in Illinois (and the namesake of the Edens Expressway). At the ceremony, the Arché Fountain was unveiled by 200 members of the Arché Club. The crossroads represent the point in history when the concept of "Good Roads" became a tangible movement in Illinois. This set the state as a national leader in creating accessible and safe cross-country transportation.
