Fabyan Villa

1925 S. Batavia Avenue Geneva, IL 60134
The Fabyan Villa is the former residence and country estate of Colonel George Fabyan, a cotton trader and inventor, and his wife, Nelle. The couple relocated from Chicago to Geneva in 1907. In that year, they purchased a large farmhouse along the Fox River and hired architect Frank Lloyd Wright to enlarge and remodel it. The property encompassed 300 acres of land adjacent to the river. The photo features the Dutch Windmill, which was acquired by the Fabyans in 1914. It was constructed in 1860 and was first located near Oak Brook, Illinois. It is constructed of black walnut, cypress, and oak wood. Today, the Fabyan Villa is a museum, and a portion of the historic estate is owned by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.
