First National Bank

15 E. 3rd Street Sterling , IL 61081
The First National Bank was designed by architect James F. Platt and constructed in 1874; however, the existing main façade dates back to a 1906 remodeling by architect Emory S. Hall and contractor T. P. Ruth. In 1918, the building was designated as the Lincoln Highway Control Station for Sterling, from which the distance between the control stations for Dixon to the east and Morrison to the west would be measured. The building was later renamed the "Sanborn Building" to honor W.A. Sanborn, who owned the first bank located on this site in the 1850s.
