The H. I. Lincoln Building was constructed in 1860 for Henry Issac Lincoln, a distant cousin of President Abraham Lincoln. Born in Geneseo County, New York., Henry and his brother, Royal Orlando, worked as farmers in New York until they both moved to Illinois in 1849. Henry moved to Lee County in 1850 and opened a general store in Franklin Grove on May 1, 1853, which he operated into the 1890s. A century later, the former general store was converted into the headquarters of the Lincoln Highway Association. Visit the museum to learn more about the history of the Lincoln Highway. The building and museum are located in the charming Main Street of Franklin Grove. After visiting the Lincoln Highway Association, consider visiting local restaurants such as Rooney's or Lincoln Way Cafe, both of which welcome guests seven days a week.
