Joseph S. Askvig Motor Sales was constructed in 1933. The company sold Chevrolet and Oldsmobile vehicles from this location until c. 1940. At that time, the owner, Joseph S. Askvig, left the auto business in favor of real estate. At the same time, he established Silver Garden Roller Rink inside the former auto showroom. Three years later, the rink added bowling lanes and changed its name to Silver Garden Lanes. However, the business was short-lived. In 1944, they reported having a shortage of "pin boys" due to high military enlistment rates amongst Rochelle's young men. After the war, the business continued as a bowling alley but changed ownership often. It has also been known as Rochelle Recreation, Chardel Bowling Lanes, and Maple Lanes. Today, it is known as T-Byrd Lanes.
