Lincoln Highway Mural #2 - Rochelle

IL Route 38 just south of 151 N. 15th Street and the railroad tracks Rocehlle, IL 61068
The second Lincoln Highway mural in Rochelle depicts the history of the city's motto: "The Hub City." In the 1850s, Rochelle became a stop on the Chicago & North Western Railway, which brought extensive opportunities for commerce and industry to the community. Sixty years later, the Lincoln Highway was constructed through the town. The convergence of rail and road in Rochelle deeply influenced the community's sense of place and charming character, which is still apparent today. The mural was completed in 2011 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the City of Rochelle. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
