Lincoln Highway Mural - Ashton

810 Main Street Ashton , IL 61006
Ashton's Lincoln Highway mural depicts the history of the national Lincoln Highway opening day celebrations. In Ashton, a "Pavement Jubilee" was held in 1921. During this celebration, villagers and neighbors participated in a two-day event filled with parades, sporting events, contests, and auto races. The mural was completed in 2011 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the community of Ashton. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway to be designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
