Aurora's Lincoln Highway mural commemorates the city's distinguished history as the first city in the nation to use electric lights for publicly lighting the entire City, earning the nickname the "City of Lights." The mural was completed in 2009 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the City of Aurora. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway to be designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
