Located on the west side of the Chicago Heights Water Department, at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and the Lincoln Highway, the Chicago Heights mural depicts the Lincoln Highway McEldowney Bridge over Thorn Creek. The mural features a unique applied Lincoln Highway wooden marker, accompanied by a classic red and blue banner across the top and bottom, respectively. The mural was completed in 2012 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration, with support from the City of Chicago Heights. The murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, the only portion of the Lincoln Highway to be designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
