The Creston Lincoln Highway Mural depicts the history of drinking fountains on the Lincoln Highway. The fountains were donated by California businessman Carl Parker in honor of his mother, who was born in Illinois. The communities with fountains needed to meet a set of criteria to qualify for the fountain; most importantly, the community was required to rename the street used by the highway as Lincoln Highway or Lincolnway. The mural was completed in 2011 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the Village of Creston. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
