Lincoln Highway Mural - Franklin Grove

119 N. Elm Street Franklin Grove, IL 61031
The Franklin Grove Lincoln Highway Mural illustrates the history of the promotion of the highway. In its nascent years, promoters, including Henry C. Ostermann, traveled the transcontinental route over 121 times to promote its construction to community leaders and citizens. On February 14, 1914, he sold Lincoln Highway pins at the Lincoln Highway Booster Days event held at the H.I. Lincoln Building in Franklin Grove. The mural was completed in 2013 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the Village of Franklin Grove. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway to be designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
