Joliet's Lincoln Highway mural features Pilcher Park, located along Hickory Creek at the eastern edge of the city. The park was utilized in the 1920s as a tourist camp for auto travelers on the Lincoln Highway. The park allowed tourists to pitch tents, build bonfires, and utilize the park's features for entertainment. The mural was completed in 2010 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the City of Joliet. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway designated a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
