The Maple Park Lincoln Highway Mural depicts the history of gas stations along the Lincoln Highway. The small village of Maple Park was home to at least three garages in the 1920s, indicating the high volume of traffic on the Lincoln Highway during that period. The mural was completed in 2011 as part of a National Scenic Byway Grant from the Federal Highway Administration with support from the Village of Maple Park. The Lincoln Highway Murals mark the Illinois section of the highway, which is the only portion of the Lincoln Highway designated as a National Scenic Byway in its entirety. The mural was created by Shaw Craft Sign Co., founded by artist Jay Allen.
