Main Street in Creston is the heart of this rural crossroads community. Since 1855, it has been aided by the presence of the Chicago & North Western Railway. The year after the railroad arrived, Creston was formally established as a village. The train allowed the area to thrive as an agricultural community as farmers were able to ship their goods to markets in Chicago. Main Street is composed of a collection of historic buildings on the north side of the railroad, as well as the Creston Opera House immediately south of the tracks. While in Creston, visit Headon's Meat Market, established in 1970. It is known for its burgers and brats, made on site.
