At the crossroads of the Dixie and Lincoln highways is the Veterans Mound, the home of multiple Veteran memorials dedicated in the City of Chicago Heights. Visitors will find a stone erected by the Elizabeth Wiederhold Circle of the Ladies of the G.A.R. in 1922, which honors the veterans of the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I. Added later are plaques in memory of veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. On Memorial Day 2010, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2825 constructed the existing terrace, which is crowned by a brick retaining wall featuring a tile mural. The mural honors the service of each branch of the United States Armed Forces, featuring the likenesses of five bas-relief military personnel, a soaring Bald Eagle, and the phrase "Honoring those who have served" inscribed on a banner.
