Constructed in 1918, this Standard Oil Filling Station was the first gas station along the Lincoln Highway in Illinois, and in Rochelle. The building is an example of a "House with Canopy" style gas station. It features a small, rectilinear building (situated at an oblique angle to the intersection) with a prominent canopy that projects over the service drive to protect vehicles and motorists as they fill their gasoline tanks. Also on the site are four original Lincoln Highway concrete markers from 1928. These markers, previously located along the highway to indicate the route of the Lincoln Highway, have been relocated to the Standard Oil Filling Station for preservation.
