Sullivan’s Drive In was first opened by Earl Sullivan in 1927 in the nearby community of Maple Park before relocating for a short time to Sycamore. In 1945, the business permanently relocated to DeKalb, initially opening at 604 E. Lincoln Highway before settling into its current location in December 1952. Early advertisements for the business promoted their curbside service, stating: "Why walk--just drive up to our side door. Blow your horn for prompt, courteous service." In addition to the tavern and packaged liquors side of the business, it also sold Kosher meats, breads, and a full line of Weisel's Cold Meats. The tavern has been passed down through generations and remains in operation as a tavern with food and packaged liquors under the ownership of Sullivan's grandchildren, Earl and Greg.
