The Innovation, known as the "Illinois Wonder Restaurant," was established in 1922 within the commanding Beaux Arts style Community Trust Savings Bank, first constructed in 1902. The restaurant was an early tourist attraction in DeKalb, said to have been known from coast to coast. It boasted a palatial interior, a soda parlor, an inventive restaurant, and a cigar department. The interior was fully clad in mahogany, and hand-woven tapestries accentuated the walls. Other decorative features were gold-trimmed columns, mosaic floors, and silvery tables covered with French linens. The restaurant was operated by Greek immigrants Diana and James Striglos, a husband-and-wife team, and Bill Striglos. In the late 1930s, the restaurant was closed, and a furniture store, Bimroses, opened in the building. It was most recently occupied by McCabe's Tavern, which closed in 2025.
