Constructed in 1916, the W. 15 th Street Bridge over Thorn Creek in Chicago Heights exemplifies the non-existent bridge over Thorn Creek immediately north on the Lincoln Highway. Both bridges were designed with four wing walls: two of brick on the outer edges (pictured) and two of concrete on either side of the vehicular roadway, creating a protected path for pedestrians. The brick walls were capped with a concrete railing and flanked by classically derived concrete piers, which terminate at concrete abutments. The concrete walls were removed several decades ago to widen the vehicular road over the bridge.
