Constructed in 1961, the Zephyr Service station was an independent member of the Zephyr chain, owned by Share Oil Co. On their opening day, Saturday, September 16th, they had a giveaway of 5,000 gallons of gasoline and gifts for children. Their catchphrase was "You're a Stranger Here but Once." In the mid-twentieth century, modern gas stations introduced canted display windows, which served both aesthetic and functional purposes, as the angled windows prevented headlight glare for cars pulling up to the station.
